presumably because blues or yellows are useless anyway and the only items that matter are set pieces and the associated legendaries that are (more or less) inofficial parts of the sets. they pretty much changed it into a slot machine to reroll items. Haven't played D3 for a while, but last time i played it the "crafting" system wasn't really about crafting.
emeralds drop all the time and serrated spikes are also fairly common i think. don't remember if it's a baseline item you can craft by default or if you have to buy the plans somewhere, though. silk swatch just requires a resilient plating (which you can also craft from lesser mats if you don't have one). The other components aren't that hard to come by. If not, you can hope for a drop from cronley a bit later or do a few warden farm runs until one drops. In the solution you will find hints about completing the main and secondary missions, description of useful items, crafting and the most important information about available classes. so if you are somewhat lucky, you get that thing for free just playing through the campaign normally. Guide to the Grim Dawn cRPG will contain complete, richly illustrated description of majority of the aspects of this game from the Crate Entertainment. you have a decent chance of getting the required brain matter from the warden at the end of act 1 and i think the champions in that zone also have a chance to drop one. Gunslinger talisman is a bit luck based i guess.
